Here's a little taste below:
1. Tell us about yourself?
I love travelling, I love talking to and learning from people from different cultures, I’m organised, ambitious, passionate and very easily distracted.
2. How did you get started?
I started designing, making and selling jewellery and accessories when I was at university to make a bit of extra cash. After graduating from uni my partner (now husband) and I decided to go travelling in Europe for 1 year…well, 1 year turned into 2 and then soon became 8 much to our family’s disappointment. While living in London I was lucky enough to work as a Product Developer and eventually an Accessories Buyer for a large UK retailer. I gained so many invaluable skills and contacts while working in the UK and so when we moved back to Brisbane earlier this year I decided to start something fresh and build my own business that I felt passionate about.
3. What has been your favorite item to make?
I’ve developed a range which is inspired by a series of adorable brightly coloured beach houses that I visited along the south coast of England (there are also some gorgeous ones here in Australia down Melbourne way – that I’m yet to visit), one house rustic and run down, the next freshly painted and glossy…I just love them! So the end result of these pieces of jewellery conjures up so many great memories for me – I particularly love how the Candy Striped Resin Bangle turned out.

Featured Young Designer:
We love to show off the best up and comers at the Young Designers Market. This month we had a chat with Skye from Ruby Olive.
Tell us a bit about your designs.
Ruby Olive was launched online and as a business 6 weeks ago….so it’s a baby of sorts. The aim when I launched was to offer bold, colourful statement jewellery and accessories at an affordable price and using sustainable raw materials where possible. Each small collection is inspired by my travels and created for someone looking for pieces that are a little different.
What inspired you to start this project?
I moved back to Brisbane earlier in the year after 8 years living abroad…I decided I didn’t want to work for someone else and that I wanted the excitement of starting something new and fresh. I love travel and exploring unknown cultures and I love colour, texture and statements that are unassuming…so I began blending my passions and Ruby Olive was born.
What's going to be new for Ruby Olive this year?
Colourful hand moulded resin pieces, quirky print wrapped beaded necklaces and textured wood and capiz shell. Basically Ruby Olive is aiming to offer statement jewellery with COLOUR & TEXTURE!
